Licensed Professional Counselor
Certified Substance Abuse Counselor

I understand that reaching out to schedule the initial therapy session can be intimidating. For this reason, my priority as a therapist is to provide a safe and confidential space for my clients in which they can share their challenges and feel heard and understood. I am passionate about developing a unique and creative therapeutic approach for each individual. My therapeutic style incorporates cognitive behavioral, expressive arts, and solution-focused techniques when working with my clients to meet their goals.

My counseling experience includes assisting adults and adolescents with life transitions, anxiety, communication skills, depression, stress management, relationship difficulties, and addictive behaviors. I have worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, hospice care, public mental health agencies and schools, and out-patient substance abuse treatment settings. I have practiced with Sunstone Counseling in Falls Church since June 2013. Beginning July 2015, I am excited to begin seeing clients at our new Alexandria office, located in Old Town.

In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, I also hold a post-master’s graduate certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy and am certified as a Substance Abuse Counselor. The expressive arts technique assists individuals to confront challenges through the healing process of creating. Through this approach, my clients can build self-confidence and increase self-awareness, thus enhancing their potential to reach personal goals in therapy and make desired positive change in their lives.

I have recently attended the following Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Counselors (NVLPC) trainings: “The Psychology of Eating” and “Food and Mood”. I also attended the Postpartum Stress Center’s training on Postpartum Depression and Perinatal Disorders. I currently am completing a Traumatic Attachment and Affect Dysregulation training by Janinia Fisher, Ph.D.

While I am a proud native of North Carolina, I have happily adopted Alexandria as my home. I received my B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and earned my Master’s Degree from Appalachian State University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
