Our culture is all about support and connection for moms during the baby years… but what about moms of teenagers? It’s often difficult to know where to find help and a community when it comes to parenting teens. Having others to talk to can make a huge difference in building and maintaining positive parent-child relationships.
This group is specifically for moms of teenage girls to find a place to connect and support each other in everyday parenting challenges. As a Resident Counselor at Sunstone Counseling, my clientele is primarily made up of teen girls and their parents. I have over ten years of experience working with this population in church, school, and private practice settings.
We will start by using Dr. Lisa Damour’s book, Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood, as we meet, focusing on the following developmental “strands” that girls navigate during their teenage years:
- Parting with Childhood
- Joining a New Tribe
- Harnessing Emotions
- Contending with Adult Authority
- Planning for the Future
- Entering the Romantic World
- Caring for Herself
