National Certified Counselor
Licensed Professional Counselor
Co-Owner of Sunstone Counseling

In my clinical practice, I help clients overcome a variety of concerns related to the symptoms of anxiety, panic disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, grief/loss, suicidal ideation, low self-esteem, body image, and relationship issues.  I specialize in women’s issues (pregnancy, perinatal mood disorders, becoming a new mom, and sexuality issues) and couples work (premarital counseling, new parents, low/no sex, repair after an affair, and second marriage – to name a few).

My real passion is helping couples.  I am a trained IMAGO therapist.  I am continuing Gottman’s training (level 2) this year and a program called “Bringing Baby Home”, designed to help new parents.  I am also happy to now offer an on-line assessment tool to help couples get feedback based on John Gottman’s research. This winter, I will start offering “intensives” for couples that would like to really dedicate some time and energy on their relationship or for those that feel stuck.

I draw upon many counseling theories in my work with clients.  I think it’s important to meet clients where they are and to help them stretch just outside their comfort zone towards growth.  I value the therapeutic relationship and hope to foster sense of security, acceptance and respect.   I know we all have a mind-body connection and that it is hard to create much change unless we look at all parts of our lives and strive for balance.  This could include exploring aspects of a person’s social, spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, environmental, occupational, financial, and intellectual life.  I believe that all the clients know what they need to do to live a healthy, productive and satisfying life.  In therapy, I help clients draw out their strengths, and identify and overcome the parts of themselves that interfere with the life they deserve.  Mindfulness has been an integral addition to my practice over the last few years to help clients.

Growing up, I moved all over the United States until settling in Virginia.  I received my bachelor’s degree in Social Work from George Mason University, followed by my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Marymount University.  I am a member at the American Counseling Association (ACA), Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Counselors (NVLPC), and Mid Atlantic Imago Therapists (MAIT).

I am the co-owner of Sunstone Counseling, along with George Coyne, LCSW.  I have been in private practice for 15 years and am very committed to providing clients with quality counseling services.  Dedicated to training other counseling professionals, I serve as a clinical supervisor for Mel Brezovsky, Heidi Ficken Possen, Leslie Coates Burpee, and Tara Edwards at Sunstone Counseling.
I would be happy to work with you or find a counselor at Sunstone Counseling that would be a great fit for you.  Please contact me if you have any questions at all.
